Eco-Friendly Cannabis Packaging | cannabis industry need to know

All we know that World Environment Day is on 5 June, there is an ethical responsibility to the environment. While the current "green revolution" is generally a positive one, with growth comes challenges, and one of the challenges the cannabis industry is now facing is packaging.

Here are the five Eco-Friendly Cannabis Packaging you need to know:

Hemp materials

Hemp is a natural plant fiber. It is a bast fiber, which means it comes from the stem of a plant (like linen, which hemp is often likened to, in addition to ramie, jute, flax, and bamboo). In terms of sustainability, hemp is often considered a preferred fiber with less harmful environmental impact.

Glass packaging

Glass is a good material choice for cannabis packaging, with properties that enhance the product and help maintain quality. The durability of glass makes it ideal for storing cannabis.

Strong and versatile, glass is the most stable of all packaging materials. Glass containers are also reusable and relatively easy to recycle for cannabis packaging.

Biodegradable packaging

Biodegradable packaging is generally defined as any form of packaging that will naturally disintegrate and decompose.

There are several biodegradable packaging types, however not all are suitable for food packaging. Here is a list of common and uncommon types of biodegradable packaging in use today:hemp, paper,PLA,Cellulose and Cellulose.

1.Hemp: Sourced from the cannabis plant, hemp is highly biodegradable, resilient, and versatile. However, hemp is still an expensive source for bioplastics and not yet commercially available in its polymerized form.

2.Paper: Paper is one of the oldest, traditional forms of compostable packaging. It biodegrades very rapidly and can easily and efficiently be recycled.

3.PLA: PLA is bio-based and can be molded like conventional plastic into packaging, however it’s slow-composting, even in an industrial composter.

4.Cellulose: Plant-based packaging degrades very easily and is a great solution for short-term packaging, but it can’t provide shelf-life or proper barrier for food products and easily discolors when stores.

5.Seaweed: Like cellulose, seaweed-based material is highly biodegradable, and a great for short-term packaging, but unstable and unsuitable for food packaging, transport and storage.

Ocean Reclaim Plastics

This Eco-Friendly Packaging Is Created Out Of Plastic Reclaimed From The Ocean.

Plastics are one of the most common pollutants found in our oceans. So if we can Reclaim the plastic from ocean and create a eco friendly packaging is benefit for our environment.

Compostable material

Compostable means that a product is capable of breaking down into natural elements in a compost environment. Because it’s broken down into its natural elements it causes no harm to the environment.
